In-Home Dog Training in Grand Haven, MI
Training Where Behavior
Actually Happens
Your dog doesn’t act the same way at a training facility as they do in your living room. That’s why we skip the classroom and come to you.
In-home dog training means we work with your dog exactly where the problems show up — at your front door, on your couch, in your kitchen, and on your daily walk. No artificial environments. No hoping it “transfers” later. Just real training in your real life.
Your Dog Knows "Sit." They Just Don't Do It When It Matters.
Most dogs aren't untrained. They're undertrained in the places that count. Your dog might sit perfectly in the backyard but lose their mind when someone walks through the front door.
That gap between what your dog can do and what they actually do at home...... that's exactly what in-home training is designed to close.
We work with you inside your house and out in your neighborhood so training happens in the same environment where behavior breaks down. No translation needed.
What In-Home Training Helps With
- Jumping on guests: Your dog learns to stay calm when people come through the door, not just when you're watching.
- Barking and overstimulation — We identify what's triggering the noise and teach your dog how to settle instead of escalate.
- Ignoring commands at home — Your dog already knows what you're asking. We build follow-through so they actually do it.
- Pulling on walks — We practice leash skills on your actual walking route, not a parking lot.
- No structure in the home — We help you build a daily routine your dog understands, so the house doesn't feel like a free-for-all.
- Reactivity — Whether it's other dogs, people, or sounds, we work through triggers in the real situations where they happen.

What Changes When Training Happens at Home
- A calmer household
Your dog learns what’s expected of them inside the house; Settling on their own, not losing it at every sound, and respecting the boundaries you set. You get your home back.
- Skills that don't fall apart outside of sessions
Because we train in the same environment where behavior happens, your dog doesn’t have to “transfer” anything. What they learn at home stays at home.
- Faster results with day training support
When you want to accelerate progress, our day training picks up where private sessions leave off — giving your dog structured repetition and hands-on work between your coaching sessions.

In-Home Dog Training FAQs
How does in-home dog training work?
We come to your home and work with you and your dog in the environment where behavior actually happens.
Sessions focus on the specific challenges you deal with every day — jumping at the door, ignoring commands, pulling on walks, or not settling in the house.
You learn alongside your dog so you can maintain results on your own.
What's the difference between in-home training and group classes?
Group classes happen in a facility with other dogs and follow a set curriculum. In-home training is one-on-one, in your house, and completely tailored to your dog's specific behavior and your daily routine. Your dog gets full attention in the environment where they actually need to perform.
How long does in-home training take to show results?
Most families see meaningful changes within the first few sessions. The full timeline depends on your dog's behavior history and how consistently the plan is followed between sessions. We set clear expectations from the start so you always know what progress looks like.
What behaviors can in-home training help with?
Everything from basic obedience and leash manners to more complex issues like reactivity, jumping on guests, door dashing, barking, anxiety, and dogs that simply won't listen inside the house. If you're not sure whether your dog's issue fits, that's what the initial call is for.
Do you serve areas outside Grand Haven?
Yes. We work with families throughout Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Holland, Muskegon, Norton Shores, Allendale, and the surrounding West Michigan area. Training happens in your home, wherever you are in the region.
Do you use e-collars or punishment-based training?
No. We use reward-based, focus-driven methods that build trust between you and your dog. Our founder, Matthew Lamarand, is an Air Force veteran and former military K9 handler, and he trains without e-collars because relationship-based training produces better, longer-lasting results.
Do you offer other training options besides in-home sessions?
Yes. We also offer day training where we work hands-on with your dog during the day, private training sessions, and board and train programs. Many families combine in-home sessions with day training for the fastest results.
